Swat is known as the Switzerland of Pakistan.
The river Swat is a clear water river springing from the Ushu mountain range and flowing the length and breadth of the valley of Swat. It is one of the greenest valleys of the Northern Pakistan and is well connected to the rest of Pakistan. The valley of Swat is located in the middle of the foothills of the Hindu Kush. The main towns of the valley are Mingora and Saidu Sharif. Swat is celebrated throughout the world as the holy land of Buddhist learning and piety. Swat acquired fame as a place of Buddhist pilgrimage and according to Buddhist tradition, Buddha himself came to Swat during his last reincarnation as the Guatama Buddha and preached to the people here. It is said that the Swat was filled with fourteen hundred imposing and beautiful stupas and monasteries, which housed as many as 6000 gold images of the Buddhist pantheon for worship and education. The lush green valley of Swat, with its rushing torrents, icy lakes, fruit laden orchards, flower decked slopes and rich historical past is ideal for every holidaymaker.
